United States Aluminum's Defender Series BT601 Storefront System Bridges The Gap Between Blast Mitigation And Hurricane Resistant Systems

Waxahachie, Texas, Jan 1, 2010 — Today United States Aluminum unveils the Defender Series BT601 Storefront System, a versatile thermally improved product that can be used in a blast mitigation environment, a hurricane resistant environment, or even a condition that requires a system to meet both specifications.
In its primary configuration as a thermally improved blast mitigation system, the BT601 can be specified for up to a 1psi blast load. BT601 is tested in accordance with both DOD UFC and Dade County Protocols to make the product applicable for blast mitigation projects in HVHZ coastal regions. Thermal efficiency, a driving design requirement from the beginning, is accomplished using our pour and debridge thermal barrier. The thermal improvement combined with the insulated glass produces a system compliant with the U.S. Department of Energy's Building Energy Codes Program.
The BT601 storefront system features a 2 ½” x 5” profile, a high performance subsill, and is designed to be glazed with 1 5/16” impact resistant insulated glass. Screw spline assembly allows units to be shop fabricated for quicker, easier field installation. Available finishes include a wide selection of standard paint colors, custom matched painted coatings, and a selection of clear, bronze or black anodic finishes.
The BT601 Entrance incorporates a patented one glazing bead design ensuring maximum protection at the entrance area. Standard corner construction includes heavy duty blocks and welding for secure door corners.
